Q-Potato was formed by the merger of ATF Potato BV and Q-Potato Holland BV. In 2014, Dirk van de Water and Wouter Mutsaers decided to join forces. They already had a history of working together.

With ATF Potato, Dirk van de Water had specialized in buying and selling ware and seed potatoes in North-Western and Eastern Europe. Wouter Mutsaers had been active for a number of years in the seed and table potato trade, especially in Southern Europe and North Africa. With the merger, a broad and firm foundation was laid for the new Q-Potato. Not only did the companies' commercial activities complement one another, the combination proved effective on a personal level too. Using each other’s networks and expertise creates added value for customers and suppliers.
